1. Watch Ratatouille with live orchestra

The Luxembourg Philharmonic will accompany this screening of Ratatouille, the ingenious Pixar film about Remy, the adorable rat chef putting a Parisian restaurant back on the map. Only a handful of tickets left, and some more may free up at the box office.

2. Visit Vegan Christmas Market

What: Animal-friendly and cruelty-free treats and gifts

Centre Culturel, 2 Rue des Ardennes, 1133 Bonnevoie

For a more sustainable pre-Christmas trip, why not head to the Vegan Christmas Market in Bonnevoie’s Centre Culturel. Organised by the Vegan Society Luxembourg, the market will include delicious food from all over the world, mulled wine and coffee, children’s activities, gift ideas, a tombola and a photo booth.

3. Celebrate 80s Christmas party

What: The best musical decade?

Get dancing to your favourite 80s tunes at Den Atelier as promoter HOOTENANNY hosts its Christmas party this Saturday. A bit of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Stairway to Heaven, Take On Me, Maneater, Never Gonna Give You Up, and Sledgehammer...your vocal chords will be sore by the end of it.

4. See sci-fi play on our planet’s future

What: Can we save this planet?
Where: Théâtre National du Luxembourg, 194 Rte de Longwy, 1940 Belair
When: Thursday, 12 December–Sunday, 15 December, times vary – info & tickets

This children’s play in German tales place in the year 2075, in which the impacts of climate change are undeniable and Earth is nearly beyond saving. Humans live in a futuristic world where cars fly and robots perform human work, but the gap between rich and poor continues to widen. A so-called ‘Collective Committee’ seeks solutions by sending a group of six people into space to discover new planets and civilisations... a captivating and thought-provoking show!

5. Book tickets to the circus

What: Big family show
Where: On the Glacis

Luxembourg’s magical Christmas Show is currently underway at the Glacis. This editor’s nephew went and he was totally flabbergasted. Prepare for a massive event featuring acclaimed artists, including performers from Cirque de Soleil and the world-famous Monte-Carlo Circus Festival. With breathtaking performances, thrilling acts, and a family friendly-atmosphere, Cirque de Lux is an animal-free show, which promises to be a magical experience for the entire family. Runs for over a month until 5 January.

6. Hear charity gala concert

What: Music for a good cause
Where: Philharmonie, 1 Pl. de l’Europe, 1499 Luxembourg
When: Thursday, 12 December at 7.30pm – info & tickets

This year, the traditional gala concert of SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde will bring South Korean conductor Hankyeol Yoon to the Luxembourg Philharmonic to perform with Ukrainian violin soloist Dmytro Udovychenko. On the programme: The passionate dances of Georges Bizet’s opera Carmen.

7. Watch Home Alone on a big screen

It’s never too early to re-watch Home Alone! But you can do so at Kinepolis this time. An eight-year-old troublemaker, mistakenly left home alone, must defend his home against a pair of burglars on Christmas Eve...
