Clients complain in LuxembourgWow Air passengers want to be reimbursed

Icelandic low-cost carrier Wow Air recently ceased its operations. The problem? Many (Luxembourgish) passengers are not getting a refund for their plane tickets.

Northern lights, dramatic landscapes with volcanoes, geysers and hot springs.... it should not be surprising that Iceland has rapidly become an attractive tourist destination in recent years.

Low-cost airline Wow Air was tapping into the high demand and offered comparatively cheap flights to the lonely island - until it ceased operations in March and cancelled all flights.

Following the cancellations, Luxembourg’s European Consumer Centre (CEC) received several complaints from clients of the airline who were struggling to get a refund for their plane tickets. Some advice from the consumer centre:

  • If the flight tickets were booked as part of a package deal (including for example hotel and/or trips), you should contact the tour operator or travel agency and ask them for a refund or a new ticket with a different airline.
  • If you booked the flights directly through Wow Air, contact your bank and demand a chargeback.
