With the upcoming holiday season and half of Luxembourg’s population having their roots abroad, some people have booked flights to their home countries or to a place where they hope to find at least a little bit of relaxation.

In order to get there, some countries like Spain or Italy now ask for a valid negative Covid test to enter. With most laboratories being closed during the holiday period, it is, however, almost impossible to take such a test during the needed timeframe – early enough to have the result in time and late enough to be valid.

To address this, Luxair and BioneXt have now come up with a special arrangement for potential travellers. After registration, the laboratory will open its doors for them on certain holidays:

“I myself will be there on the 26th of December to say ‘Thank you!’ to the employees of the laboratory, who spend some time of their holidays in order to offer tests for travellers”, says Gilles Feith, CEO of Luxair Airlines.

The initiative enables hundreds of people, who would otherwise have been barred from travelling, to safely go on their trip.

Like many other companies in Luxembourg, Luxair has taken several initiatives to make the best of their situation while at the same time trying to do something meaningful.

82 of their employees are now supporting the government´s contact tracing and helpline team to help limiting the spread of the virus.

When during the past couple of months many of Luxair´s flights were cancelled, they made sure that the unconsumed food would not go to waste: the products, including pretzels and sweets, were distributed at hospitals and to the children of SOS Kannerduerf in Luxembourg.
