New policyEasyJet to charge for overhead luggage locker

RTL Today
British low-cost carrier EasyJet will start charging customers for using a overhead luggage compartment, the company said.

The new luggage policy will come into effect on 10 February 2021. Customers not purchasing a more expensive ticket will be restricted to stowing a small carry-on bag under the seat in front of them.

Prices range from €8.50 on short trips, up to €33 on longer flights.
Robert Carey, chief commercial and customer officer for EasyJet said: “Punctuality is important to our customers and we know that if they have their bags placed into the hold at the gate due to the limited space onboard this can cause flight delays, and it can be frustrating for them too.

“Our new policy will improve boarding and punctuality for everyone, as well as give our customers certainty of what they will have with them onboard.”

The move has provoked criticism on the internet, with one user saying: “Charging for using the overhead compartments only alienates your existing customer base.”
