In November, there is a greater variety of fresh produce available than you might think. You can still buy salads such as lamb’s lettuce and rocket, then there is also celery, beetroot and last but not least cabbage! When you cook cabbage, add some celery leaves to the water, this way it won’t smell so much.
Even though cabbage is sometimes said to be a poor people’s vegetable, one should not underrate it. Cabbage is a local superfood par excellence! Superfoods are very popular because of their many valuable nutrients, but you don’t have to buy goji berries from China. There are local alternatives which are also more reasonably priced, such as cabbages, nettles, sunflower and pumpkin seeds ... and, of course, nuts.
Another local superfood that is in season in November is rose hip, which, because it has so much vitamin C and tastes quite sour, is often called the lemon of the north. Rose hips are seldom eaten raw. They are dried and prepared as an infusion that you can sweeten with honey made in Luxembourg - a perfect drink to fortify you on a cold, wet winter day.
