Then you're in luck, because a job listing for that very position has been posted to Gov.UK.

The start date is expected to be April 2021, so you've got plenty of time to get your affairs in order before taking over the reins from Ambassador John Marshall (he of #LuxUKLinks). As you might expect, the position is only open to UK nationals, and comes with a salary of £70,000 per year (that's about €78,000, though how the whole Brexit thing unfolds may change that particular calculation one way or the other). You will also be provided with a Residence (capitalisation theirs, not ours), so rent won't be something you will have to worry too much about, as well as "a suitable overseas compensation package."

The contract is for four years, full time. The basic criteria you will need to fulfil are:

  • A track record of successful strategic leadership at a senior level in a complex environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey messages effectively to different audiences, including through the media and to the public.
  • Proven success in establishing a range of influential and collaborative relationships at a very senior level (Board or Ministerial), with evidence of the ability to work in a political environment, showing sound judgment, cultural sensitivity, diplomacy, tact and discretion at all time.
  • Experience in building high performing teams and networks with an inclusive culture and the flexibility and resilience to navigate change effectively.
  • French is essential for this role (training can be given).

Desirable

  • Experience and knowledge of working in or with the European region;
  • previous experience of the financial services sector would be useful.
  • An understanding of business.
  • German is desirable
  • The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to the values of the Civil Service
