Dog owners in Buenos Aires gathered in droves on Monday for a "Golden Wave," a mass meet-up aiming to set a new world record for the largest assembly of golden retrievers.

Hundreds of golden retrievers and their owners convened on a Buenos Aires park Monday in a bid to set a new world record for the largest gathering of golden retrievers.

The event, dubbed “Golden Wave,” was organised through social media, calling owners to meet at the “Bosques de Palermo” park. The response was overwhelming, quickly turning the call into a mass event.

The park was filled with dogs of all ages, from exuberant puppies playing in the mud to older dogs trotting around in festive costumes like Santa Claus or fairies, while their owners showered them with affection.

“We are witnessing something historic,” Fausto Duperre, the event’s organiser, told Reuters.

“A gathering of this size has never been held before, and I believe breaking Vancouver’s record of 1,685 golden retrievers will be historic,” he added. Surveying the scene, he declared triumphantly, “And if you look around, we did it – 100%.”

Ten officials are now tasked with verifying the count. The final numbers will be published once confirmed, though Duperre is optimistic, estimating that more than 2,000 golden retrievers participated in the Argentine “Golden Wave.”
