The success of Pokémon GO, which attracted more than 65 million monthly players, was monumental to say the least. Is the augmented reality game Harry Potter: Wizards Unite going to be a massive success as well? The American games company Niantic certainly hopes so.
The game works in a similar way to its predecessor Pokémon GO: the game uses AR and is available as a smartphone app (iOS and Android) for free, though it finances itself through micropayments. Buying gold coins or objects is not mandatory to play the game, but the in-game character will be stronger if you delve into your pocket.
The player takes on the role of a Hogwarts student and is then tasked with the pursuit of monsters or visions, as well as guarding the border between the world of magic and that of Muggles. They may also have to locate magic artefacts.
In order to succeed, it is useful to anticipate combats by preparing healing potions, and by personalising your character by teaching them new skills.
On social media, you can already find pages dedicated to the game. Now we just have to wait and see whether this game will be as successful as that dedicated to catching pokémons.
