Ben Carter is a name that is synonymous with the Grand Duchy’s art scene.
His images have featured in a vast number of international HQs, his works have likely been stuck on any number of your more recent post and parcels. “My artistic approach continues to evolve,” says Carter. “I develop new techniques by letting ideas flow from one medium of visual language to another”. This, he says, is by moving back and forth from painting to sculpture, “while remaining playful and experimental, pushing boundaries to take me outside my comfort zone.”
Many of Ben’s most popular works come from being inspired by the city he calls home. “Much of my early work focused on Luxembourg’s ever-evolving skyline,” Carter states, referencing the modernity that rubs shoulders with the past.
“There is an inspiring visual juxtaposition between the historic and the new, most notably between wonderful mature centuries-old fortifications and today a dazzling emerging new institutional and business district.”
Carter has said that his aim is to depict the City’s skyline in novel ways that “capture its dynamics, contrasts and vibrancy - an upbeat city that is proud about its past and excited about its future...”
Carter has, since the 18th of November, been exhibiting and selling artworks in a “beautiful shop in the centre of Luxembourg City with the Danish Goldsmith Stine Bülow”. This store can be found on 4, rue Louvigny but you had better be quick, as this residency ends on Christmas Eve.
Readers, patrons, art lovers are encouraged to drop in and get a closer look at both the artist’s works and the hand-crafted jewelry on display.

Ben Carter’s works are always highly anticipated and sought after. Friend of the site and our radio spin-off, Ben is no stranger to our readers, having offered us a near yearly chance for readers to grab a limited edition print in the past.
In 2021 we held a very popular competition for readers to win an offset print from Ben’s Penguin Project Series.
We carried a wonderful reader lead competition back in 2020, where Ben put a call out for Luxembourg’s talented artists to add a little colour to what was then a very dark and grim looking future. You can check that out here.
