Over 200 furry snouts gathered in Magdeburg over the weekend to compete for the title of fastest dachshund in Germany.

The fastest dachshund in Germany now hails from Tornesch in Schleswig-Holstein. Fiete won the final of the first German Championship in the standard dachshund category with a time of 5.6 seconds. The final run had to be repeated twice, as no clear winner could be determined during the initial rounds despite a photo finish.

In the miniature dachshund categories, the top prize went to Frieda, a lady dachshund from Ludwigsfelde in Brandenburg. "Frieda only gets buffalo meat at our place – maybe that’s her little secret", said her owner, Stefan Müller, after the win. She also enjoys playing with balls in her daily life.

A total of 220 dachshunds participated in the inaugural German Championship. According to organisers, each dog ran the 40-metre course with two people: one holding the dog at the start line, and the other waiting at the finish to encourage the run. Whistles, squeaky balls, and small treats were used to coax the dogs into dashing down the track as quickly as possible.

Participants came from across Germany, with two dogs even making the journey from Austria.
