A man was arrested at Dublin Airport on Saturday after suspected detonators were discovered during a bag check, prompting the evacuation of Terminal 2 for several hours.

According to Irish media, the passenger had been traveling from London Heathrow to New York via Dublin when the items were detected.

Defence Forces bomb disposal experts were placed on standby, and police officers described the discovery as an “extreme security alert”. The incident has raised concerns it could be linked to a cyber attack that has disrupted airports across Europe, though the impact in Ireland has been limited to minor delays at Dublin and Cork.

Terminal 2 has since reopened, with flights resuming, though officials warned that knock-on delays are likely throughout the day. Passengers were directed to assembly points during the evacuation, and vehicle access to parts of the airport was temporarily restricted.

Authorities urged travellers to check with their airlines for updates as operations return to normal.
