A joint initiative by the British, Canadian and US embassies to Luxembourg is offering young women the chance to be a "Diplomat for a Day" in a new competition.

Christine Lugrine and Lara Dieudonné appeared on Today Radio’s Sam Steen Show to talk about the initiative, which aims to encourage young women and girls to become leaders and advocates for change.

The competition, which was launched to celebrate International Women’s Day, is aimed at girls or women between the ages of 16 and 19. The lucky winners will be invited to spend a day at the British and American embassies in Luxembourg on 11 March, where they will have the chance to speak to the ambassadors, as well as experienced diplomats and local leaders.

In a joint initiative by the British, Canadian and US embassies to Luxembourg that aims to encourage young women and girls to become advocates for change.

The applicants only need to identify as female and be enrolled in Luxembourg high school. Entries can be submitted in either video format or written format before the deadline of 11 February.

To enter, applicants must answer one of the following questions:

  • What positive change would you like to see in your community and in the world regarding women’s rights and equality, and how can you contribute to making that change happen?
  • In recent times, world peace has been increasingly threatened by armed conflicts. Discuss how women are essential in establishing and maintaining lasting peace in our world today. Share your ideas on how you, as a young woman, can contribute to fostering peace within your own community.
