Five restaurants in the Grand Duchy have been selected to appear on popular German cookery show "Mein Lokal, dein Lokal", on KabelEins.
Each episode will see one restaurant hosting the owners of the other four for a three-course meal, with points awarded for the food and the service. Presenter and chef Mike Süsser will also rate each gastronomic experience to award the final score.
The featured restaurants are Brasserie Abtei in the Grund, "TEMPO" in Clausen, the "Um Eck" brasserie in Hostert, "Wäistuff Leuck" in Lenningen and "Savory" in Grevenmacher.
The competition will examine not just the food served at each restaurant, but also the kitchen set-up and facilities. A grade between 1 and 10 will be awarded at the conclusion of each episode.
Chris Juchemes, who runs "Savory", said it was a super opportunity and explained he had received an email inviting him to audition for the show. Participating in the show was a perfect way of marking the restaurant's tenth anniversary, he added.
Juchemes and the other restaurant owners spent a week dining at each other's establishments during filming. Although the process was tiring, with long days and shoots lasting from 9am to 9pm, he described it as largely enjoyable, although he found the practice of hosting his fellow competitors rather nerve-wracking.
Naturally Juchemes will be tuning in for the first episode of the show, which will be broadcast on 1 August. "I've invited my neighbours over to watch, although I won't be able to watch every episode as of course, I also have to work!"
The restaurant which receives the most points at the end of the show's run will be crowned the winner, receiving the "Golden Plate" award and €3,000 in prize money.
