Welcome to the weekend! If you're in need of some fresh air, then why not hike the Escapardenne Eislek Trail up north? Or learn Luxembourgish with the country's own crime thriller "Capitani", now available on Netflix and in the top charts around the world. The weekend is yours, enjoy it!

1. Learn Luxembourgish with Capitani on Netflix

Of course this Luxembourg-made crime thriller isn't new, but last week it was first presented on Netflix worldwide. The Luxembourgish series has climbed into the top 10 in 49 countries, representing a huge, if slightly unexpected success. So for those that haven't been able to watch it: now's a chance not to be missed. What's more fun than seeing your own home in the background, or recognising the village bakery? Comes with a multitude of subtitles and voice over languages.

2. Get tickets to Baroque/Flamenco show

What: Rocío Márquez & Fahmi Alqhai
Where: Philharmonie, 1 Place de l'Europe, 1499 Luxembourg
When:
Wednesday, 24 February at 6pm and 8pm - €35/€21, info here

Baroque music and flamenco have a lot in common, as this show will present. Diálogos of viejos y nuevos sones (dialogues of old and new sounds) is a fiery quartet that intertwines genres and feelings, showcasing the variety of this musical history. In 2016, the Flamenco Biennial of Seville commissioned the gambist Fahmi Alqhai and the flamenco singer Rocío Márquez to look for the interaction between the ancient roots of flamenco and its new evolutions today. The programme includes "flamenco flutes" that made the trip from Andalusia to Latin American folklore and back, but also chaconnes and marionas that crossed the Atlantic in the first collections of 17th century sheet music. A true innovative, musical journey.

We came across this one in the morning, and this editor's jaw dropped. Anyone in need of a private cinema room just for themselves and their friends? This is exactly what "Kinepolis Privé" will offer you. You can invite up to 9 friends (plus yourself) and enjoy the movie of your choice (in the version of your choice), set your preferred starting time and enjoy a private screening. Nearly 190,000 women and men cross the borders with Luxembourg every day. Luxembourg has this unique feature in the world of seeing almost half of its working population come from abroad. Les Frontalières, a documentary play on the life of Luxembourg cross-border workers, on the initiative of ASTI (Association for the Support of Immigrant Workers), wants to put the spotlight on these people, especially women, who participate in the common history of the Grand Duchy. Based on testimonies, Sophie Langevin wanted to explore the intimate, social and political debates that cover the scale of the phenomenon in order to understand what these people are going through on both sides of the border.

What: Sanctuary of light
Where: Annex 22, Place de la Résistance (Brillplaz), Esch-sur-Alzette
When: Saturday, 20 February - Sunday, 21 February between 11am-6pm, info here

Martine Glod, who studied art with a focus on painting, constantly questions the traditional way of working with this medium. In search of new ways to represent colour, she challenged herself to replace brushes and paint with other materials. In her work "All we need is light", inspired by Asian sand mandalas, she presents her set-up at Annexe22 in a glass pavilion that evokes the way they are displayed in Asia. The shape of his installation is derived from the radial symmetry of the mandalas: rotating around its axis, the light unfolds from the centre outwards in different directions. Up to 16 million different shades can be pre-programmed and generated through the individual LED bars, adding the extra dimension of pulsating movement. Check out this "sanctuary of light".
