1. Hear jazz-pop singer Claire Parsons at Philharmonie

What: “In Geometry” album show
Where: Philharmonie, 1 Place de l’Europe, 1499 Luxembourg
When: Friday, 21 May at 6pm - info & tickets here

Claire Parsons is an icon in the Luxembourg music scene. In her compositions, she combines pop with jazz and electronic influences, a great mix that is worth listening to, even more so because of the great musicians that accompany her on stage. For this gig at the Chamber Music hall of the Philharmonie she is joined also by a string trio. Expect groove, virtuosity from all angles and soothing harmonies - not to be missed.

2. Feel the heat of Spain’s premier flamenco company

What: Universal languages of music and dance
Where: Grand Théâtre, 1 Boulevard Robert Schuman, 2525 Luxembourg
When:
Saturday, 22 May at 8pm - info & tickets here

The Grand Theatre is welcoming the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía this Sunday. The 11 dancers and 5 musicians have performed all over the world and some of Spain’s top dancers studied and performed with the company. Music and dance are a universal language, a way of expressing and conveying emotions and feelings, and for the region of Andalucía flamenco is its most meaningful expression, its innermost soul. It’s the cultural manifestation of an entire people, born of their roots and nourished by their unique, intrinsic history.

3. Visit Luxembourg’s Aviation Museum in Mondorf

What: History of the Grand Duchy’s skies
Where: Luxembourg Aviation Museum, av. des Bains Domaine thermal, 5610 Mondorf-les-Bains
When: Open all days apart from Mondays between 2pm-6pm, info here

Luxembourg’s first aviation museum opened in Mondorf in 2012. I hear you think: “Hm, besides Findel Airport, what else flies in Luxembourg anyway?” But rest assured, there’s quite some history: the “Klemm”, a famous monoplane built in 1934, a glider plane, the oldest wooden place flow in in Luxembourg and the country’s first hot-air balloon are all showcased here. There is an interactive weather station and children can hear a conversation between a pilot and air traffic controller. A nice trip that can be easily combined with a visit to the Moselle region and Mondorf city centre.

4. Explore our new Luxembourg Insider series - and find your favourite activity

What: The place to be for all info on Luxembourg
Where: Our Luxembourg Insider section
When: Anytime

We recently launched a brand new section on our website, called Luxembourg Insider. It has all you need to know about Luxembourg, whether that’s info on dining & drinking, events & traditions, family & school, practical information, guides, healthcare, history, languages or daily life. Each category contains a bunch of articles that may be interesting to you, and while they aren’t necessarily showcasing upcoming events, they may provide some cool ideas for a weekend trip. For example, read walking and biking trails in the South of Luxembourg, chase iconic film locations in Luxembourg, or read up on good vegetarian and vegan restaurants in the Grand Duchy.

5. See Anthony Hopkins and Emma Colman in The Father

What: Gripping drama about dementia
Where: Several cinemas across Luxembourg
When: Times vary, info & tickets here

Anthony is 80, mischievous, living defiantly alone and rejecting the carers that his daughter, Anne, encouragingly introduces. Yet help is also becoming a necessity for Anne; she can’t make daily visits anymore and Anthony’s grip on reality is unravelling. As we experience the ebb and flow of his memory, how much of his own identity and past can Anthony cling to? How does Anne cope as she grieves the loss of her father, while he still lives and breathes before her? This debut by French filmmaker Florian Zeller is pulling in rave reviews.

6. Groove out with the Benoît Martiny Band in Wiltz

What: Good dose of headbanging
Where: Wiltz Gardens, 8 Gruberbeerig L-9538 Wiltz
When: Saturday, 22 May at 7pm - info & tickets here

Formed in 2004, the roots of the Benoit Martiny Band grew out of a garage in the small village of Rameldange. For over a decade, the prolific drummer Benoit Martiny developed an original blend of jazz’n’roll with psychedelic and cinematic grooves together with his fellow bandmates. Now they’ll be performing live as part of the Garden Sounds Series in Wiltz.

7. Distribute your own douze points during Eurovision 2021

What: Some cheeky analysis of the grand music bash
Where: Follow on TV channels Das Erste, France 2 or BBC One - ticker commentary on RTL Today!
When: Saturday, 20 May at 8pm

The Eurovision Song Contest: That day of the year when Europe (and Australia and Israel, for some odd reason) comes together to celebrate music and diversity, as well as jaw-dropping productions, questionable fashion and choice of clothing (or, lack thereof, mostly). We ran a reader poll yesterday to find out whether you’d enjoy some spontaneous commentary by your RTL Today team, and the result is rather mixed...anyways, think we’ll do it anyway. Tune in, share your pictures and win some prizes! Oh...and your editor came across this: Luxembourg’s entry in 1980. You won’t believe your eyes.

Is there an event you think we’d enjoy and like to share with our audience? Feel free to let us know through audience@rtltoday.lu and we may consider it for next week’s agenda.
