Following demands from two organisations, the Minister of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development expressed support for an agricultural summit on Twitter.
The idea of an agriculture summit was first put forward by the Farmers' Alliance and was quickly supported by the Chamber of Agriculture. In the meantime, a number of parliamentary enquiries concerned with such a meeting have also allegedly made their way to the office of Minister Haagen.
The politician from the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP) thus took to Twitter on Friday to express support for the proposed agriculture summit, further describing it as the "right instrument" for the period following the harvest season: "After more than 30 meetings with all actors in agriculture and viticulture this year, we will be able to discuss problems, ideas, and projects."
In another written statement, Minister Haagen already noted that preparations for a meeting with representatives from the sector is being scheduled for September. Furthermore, he ensured that all affected administrations are cooperating and that the impacts of the drought are continuously being monitored.
