MP Marc Spautz from the Christian Social People's Party (CSV) recently filed a parliamentary enquiry about care provider Orpéa's plans to open a home in the Grand Duchy.
Orpéa Group is already active in 23 countries around the globe and now plans to also open a care home here in Luxembourg.
The former dairy site in Merl has been chosen as the location for the new facility, which is expected to have 123 beds.
In her response to the enquiry, Minister for Family Affairs and Integration Corinne Cahen conveyed that the government received an application two months ago, and that a complementary document came in last week.
Orpéa recently came under fire in France after journalist Victor Castanet published an investigative book, called 'Les Fossoyeurs' ('The Gravediggers'), which alleges serious misconduct across several nursing homes operated by the group. Back then, MP Spautz already requested an urgent Chamber discussion of Orpéa's extension plans.

While the French justice system is currently taking a closer look at the care provider's management practices, Orpea denies all accusations of misconduct.
The company will also be subjected to rigorous checks here in Luxembourg, explained Minister Cahen, including background information and criminal offences committed by board members.
