On 18 December 2025, the Theatre Federation and the Association of Life Performance Professionals (ASPRO) formally signed an agreement increasing sector-wide minimum rates. The new agreement updates the existing pay frameworks for on-stage professions, covered by a 2023 agreement, and backstage professions, regulated since 2024, representing another step towards greater professional recognition and structuring of the live performance sector.
The most significant change is the introduction of automatic indexation of fees, ensuring that remuneration keeps pace with changes in the cost of living in Luxembourg. This mechanism is intended to prevent minimum fees from falling behind the cost of living and to provide more sustainable financial prospects for performers and technical staff working in live productions.
The agreement responds to long-standing calls from within the sector for fairer pay and more stable working conditions.
According to Claire Wagener, president of ASPRO, decent working conditions are essential if professionals are to establish themselves in the sector over the long term and work under healthy conditions. In a joint press release with the Theatre Federation, she underlined that fair pay structures are a key foundation for professional sustainability.
Sascha Dahm, president of the Theatre Federation, described the agreement as a strong and forward-looking signal for the future of the sector.
The introduction of automatic indexation is presented in the press release as a first for the performing arts field and as a clear acknowledgement of the professional nature of the work carried out both on stage and behind the scenes. The two organisations also stressed in the press release their intention to continue constructive dialogue with institutional and political partners in order to achieve further tangible improvements.
