In Luxembourg, Edsun’s name would normally be associated with music. The artist released his first EP in 2015 and, since then, has steadily established himself in the Luxembourg music scene, both as a singer and a dancer.
Now he has ventured into a new discipline: acting. In February, audiences had the chance to see Edsun’s first theatre play, MOTH, at the Mierscher Theatre, in Mersch.
Over the course of a career that began at the age of 25, Edsun has always experimented with different art forms. He writes his own songs, sings and dances. Over recent years, he has also established himself as a producer, choreographer and director of music videos. In 2024, he took part in the first edition of the new Luxembourg Song Contest, making it all the way to the final. In the years that followed, he supported candidates as a coach and songwriter.
For his first theatre piece, Edsun takes on the roles of composer, director, choreographer and actor all at once. The piece bears the title MOTH because Edsun repeatedly draws on the allegory of the light that moths are famously drawn to.
The set transforms over the course of the piece from a backstage area into a car park. MOTH is a hybrid theatre piece that moves between performance, dance and song, and encourages viewers to engage with their own inner thoughts. The songs heard in the piece are compositions by Edsun, and the choreography is by dancer Tristan Sagon, who shares the stage with him.
It is an artistic experience for young and old alike. Themes such as love, friendship and rejection are explored in a meeting of the universes of theatre and song.
