On the Sam Steen Show on Today Radio, the duo Svein Berge and Torbjørn Brundtland of Röyksopp discussed their three-part project “Profound Mysteries,” their new approach to live performances, and remixing without reverence.

The project, “Profound Mysteries,” while enjoyable as a standard LP and available on vinyl, is not really designed with that in mind. Röyksopp treated each song equally and gave each track a visual accompaniment, and instead of releasing the songs all at once, released each song individually.

While there is a benefit to listening to the project chronologically, as it does tell a single story, the duo acknowledge that “music lives in a different space now,” and people don’t have the time to listen all the way through all at once. Röyksopp believes there is no wrong way to listen “Profound Mysteries” part one, two, and three.

Despite the high production value of the album, their live performances will be much more direct and simple. They are traveling with a small group of dancers, but beyond that, the focus is on connecting with the audience, and creating “less apprehension and more participation” in the audience.

When it comes to remixes, the duo approaches the artists they want to work with, and present them with a song they want remixed. The more original the remix, the better. Röyksopp don’t care what an artist does to their original song, as long as the artist brings something new to the original track.

Röyksopp will be performing at Neimënster on Tuesday June 27th.
