Venue changeThe Smashing Pumpkins to play Luxexpo Open Air in June 2024

RTL Today
Legendary alt-rockers The Smashing Pumpkins' concert, taking place on 28 June 2024, is now part of the Luxexpo Open Air lineup.

(Good) Update: The Pumpkins are still coming, and to a bigger venue. Since the announcement, fans have responded with fervent intensity and a venue change was needed in order to accommodate the crowd. The concert will still take place on 28 June, but now as part of Luxexpo Open Air.

Led by frontman Billy Corgan, the band is best known for hits Cherub Rock and Today from the classic album Siamese Dream, 1979, Tonight, Tonight and Bullet with Butterfly Wings from their acclaimed 1995 double-album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.

The Pumpkins last played Luxembourg in 2013 (at Rockhal), having previously toured in the Grand Duchy in 2007 (an ear shattering and packed to the rafters performance at den A) and 2011 (also at Rockhal) and this show, promo.

Corgan is undoubtedly a musical genius, and one with a penchant for going FULLY OVERBLOWN. Their latest release ATUM - A Rock Opera in Three Acts coming in at a whopping 33 tracks, originally slated for release in 2021, it eventually arrived in stages on November 15, 2022, January 31, 2023, and May 5, 2023. More recent Pumpkins shows have leaned heavily on their colossal back-catalogue, so we can hope for a greatest hits show of sorts when the band (now Corgan, guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlain) take the stage.

Check out the Song 2 Podcast featuring Tonight, Tonight here. Song 2 is a twice-weekly show, hosted by Stephen ‘Steps’ Lowe that suggests, or rather argues, that the second track on an album is the record’s best OR most important track.

Tickets for the concert in Esch-Belval will go on sale this Friday 10 November.

The Today Radio team are digging into an interview AND hopefully something especially special closer to the show date.
