Australian pop-rock sensations 5 Seconds of Summer are set to play at the Rockhal on Saturday at a concert put on by den Atelier. The band will be supported by two acts on the night, singer Charlotte Sands and indie-dance duo AR/CO, who jumped on a Zoom call with Today Radio host Sam Steen for a quick chat ahead the show.
The london based dance music duo caught up with Sam Steen ahead of their show supporting 5 Seconds of Summer on October 7th.
AR/CO are Australian Mali-Koa and Englishman Leo Stannard; a pair of songwriters who, having worked the London scene and performed with and written for many other artists in the past, decided to hang on to a few of their good songs during Covid and create a band that has been described as the lovechild of MGMT and Daft Punk.
Has that got your attention? Well good, because the pair are great fun and clearly loving being part of a big production, getting to show off their music and bringing thousands of new fans on a journey to what they call “planet AR/CO”.
Theirs is party music with a heart and while the pair are keen to impress that the fun is the point, they are clearly serious musicians with a vision and a clear sense of who they are.
Listen below to the full interview as they discuss songwriting, playing to the crowd, the recent writers’ strike in America and how it relates to the music industry and their forthcoming debut album.
