"Millen Sessions"Joint effort between Luxembourg artists and refugees

RTL Today
An intercultural project based in Bigonville shows that music can bring together people from all over the world.

In a series of six acoustic concerts, Luxembourgish musicians and refugees from the Bigonville shelter have created the so-called “Millen Sessions”. One of the refugees, who benefited from a tutorial by director Thierry Besseling, has filmed a song by all the musicians present, including-Serge Tonnar, Hannah Ida, Bartleby Delicate, Robert Gollo Steffen, Marie Weis and C’est Karma.

Before the performance, the video captures an informal discussion between the artist and cameraman. After the concert, artists, spectators and refugees came together for a group meal.

“Mir wëllen iech ons Heemecht weisen”

The intercultural event took place at the Bigonville mill. The goal of the project was to offer better access to Luxembourgish culture, open an intercultural dialogue and encourage contact with local residents.

Serge Tonnar launched the intercultural exchange, titled “Mir wëllen iech ons Heemecht weisen” (“We want to show you our home”) in 2015, when a number of refugees came to the Grand Duchy. With the help of volunteers, the project has sought to help refugees integrate into Luxembourg society. As well as musical performances, the project offers art projects for children and adults, dancing classes, intercultural neighbour festivities, cultural excursions and intercultural cooking workshops.
