When Miles Davis says “Marcus is so focused in the studio, man, it's scary!”, you know you’re dealing with someone special. Marcus Miller is a musician who defies categories. Bassist, producer, composer, multi-instrumentalist, he’s done it all and done it better than most.

Nearly five decades after first picking up his instrument, Miller has worked with a jaw-dropping list of legends: Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Luther Vandross, Herbie Hancock, Eric Clapton, Beyoncé, Wayne Shorter, Bill Withers, Jean-Michel Jarre. He’s the man behind the sound of Miles Davis’ iconic Tutu, the writer of Vandross’ biggest hits, and the winner of two Grammys (though everyone agrees he deserves a few more).

Born in Brooklyn and raised in a deeply musical family, Marcus was a classically trained clarinetist before he even thought about the bass. He went on to shape the sound of modern jazz, R&B and funk, constantly reinventing what groove can mean. His live shows are a masterclass in musicianship: rich, soulful, and effortlessly cool.

On 2 November, Marcus Miller brings his unmistakable sound to den Atelier. Expect a night of deep grooves, slick bass lines and world-class musicianship from one of the most influential artists alive.
