Luxembourg’s film industry will be in the spotlight at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, particularly in the Directors’ Fortnight section, an independent and prestigious section parallel to the main festival. Three Luxembourg co-productions have been selected for this section, showcasing international collaborations. One of these is the feature film Dora by South Korean director July Jung, co-produced by the Luxembourg company Les Films Fauves alongside French and South Korean partners.

Another film co-produced by Les Films Fauves is La Libertad Doble, a collaboration between Argentina, Luxembourg, Colombia, and Germany, directed by Argentine filmmaker Lisandro Alonso.

Also featured in this section is Death Has No Master, a project involving Luxembourg (via Deal Productions), Venezuela, and Canada, directed by Venezuelan Jorge Thielen Armand.

Beyond Directors’ Fortnight, Luxembourg’s participation extends to the Cannes Film Market, an annual marketplace for films and one of the world’s largest film markets. The Luxembourg feature Dead Dad Girl, directed by Stephen Korytko, has been selected for the PÖFF Goes to Cannes showcase. This dark coming-of-age comedy, co-produced by Samsa Film, features Luxembourgish actors such as Luc Schiltz, Sophie Mousel, and Philippe Thelen.

Film roles, co-productions and poster design

Luxembourg’s representation at the festival is not limited to films. The official poster for this year’s Immersive Competition features Ceci est mon coeur by Nicolas Blies and Stéphane Hueber-Blies, an immersive experience from the production company a_BAHN.

Moreover, Samsa Film contributed to the production of Full Phil by French director Quentin Dupieux, and this year’s Directors’ Fortnight poster was designed by Luxembourgish graphic artist Michel Welfringer. Luxembourg’s silver screen darling, Vicky Krieps, can also be seen in Diamond by Andy Garcia, which is being shown out of competition.
