I will make no apology about being a little gushy here, as Haig’s Reasons To Stay Alive saved me. It really did. Going through a terrible time, the ‘woe is me’ became a mirror, became a way out of a labyrinth constructed from my own self doubt.
Because of that, I am drawn to Haig’s prose. I admire so much about him and find comfort in his success.
Haig’s latest is not a long form novel in the guise of The Humans or How To Stop Time, it is rather a collection of notes, thoughts, ideas, tips and tricks for an overworked mind and a careworn sense of self.
It is as the PR reads a series of “reflections on hope, survival and the messy miracle of being alive.”
Where RTSA was not a self help guide, The Comfort Book will not fix you.
It may though be a good time to embrace Haig and consider some self-reflection.

The Comfort Book is out now on Penguin.
