Abdulrazak Gurnah, the Nobel Prize-winning author renowned for his exploration of colonialism, brought his insights to Luxembourg as the featured guest of the "Das Blaue Sofa" literary series.

The literary forum "Das Blaue Sofa" ("The Blue Sofa") was hosted in Luxembourg for the fourth time, this time featuring a distinguished guest: Nobel Prize-winning author Abdulrazak Gurnah. Born in the Sultanate of Zanzibar in 1948, Gurnah was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2021. He appeared at Neimënster Abbey for a conversation with Nathalie Jacoby about his new novel, "Theft".

Gurnah's body of work comprises 11 novels, which largely explore the themes of colonialism and its consequences. Following the Nobel award, several of his works – which had been out of print in German despite previous translations – were promptly reissued. Among his most celebrated books are "Paradise" (1994) and "By the Sea" (2001).

Renowned as a masterful storyteller, Gurnah has a unique ability to captivate his readers. His books are considered literary masterpieces that remain highly accessible and enjoyable.

"Das Blaue Sofa" is a literary format sponsored by Bertelsmann, and the event with Abdulrazak Gurnah was organised in collaboration with the Pierre Werner Institute.
