The 16th British & Irish Film Festival Luxembourg (BIFFL) launches its Autumn Edition from 14 to 21 September 2025, bringing a line-up of films from across Britain and Ireland to local audiences; most screenings will be held at Ciné Utopia, with one special showing at Kinepolis-Kirchberg.
This year's programme features 16 feature-length films spanning drama, comedy, documentary, and animation, as well as a collection of short films. The festival will open with Brides, a British drama, and close with Re-Creation, a Luxembourg-Irish co-production based on the real-life murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier.
Among the highlights is Spilt Milk, screening on Friday 19 September at 7pm at Ciné Utopia. Actor Cillian Sullivan will attend the screening as a special guest. Other visiting guests this year include Amy Huberman (Fran the Man), directors Trevor Birney (The Negotiator) and Aoife Kelleher (Mrs Robinson), and celebrated filmmaker Jim Sheridan, co-director of Re-Creation.
The Shorts Evening on Tuesday 16 September will showcase a mix of animation, drama, comedy, and documentary, including Echoes of Galway by the winners of the 2024/25 Young Filmmakers Competition. The evening will also mark the launch of the 2025/26 edition of the competition.
In addition to its main programme, BIFFL is collaborating with Ciné Utopia and CinEast for special screenings, including Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale and Sanatorium, Ireland’s official entry to the 2026 Oscars.
Tickets are available via Luxembourg-Ticket.lu, with most screenings priced at €10. Season Special tickets (€35) and a Documentary Double Bill (€15) are also available.
In conversation with RTL, festival organiser Geoff Thompson said: "We now have what we believe is a fantastic programme for the 2025 Autumn Edition in September. This time out we have built even stronger community ties, as well as collaborations with Kinepolis and CinEast. We are especially excited to present Re-Creation as our closing film."
