Luxembourg director Cyrus Neshvad's "The Red Suitcase" has been nominated in the best live action short film category at this year's Oscars.

According to the Luxembourg Film Fund, filming for "The Red Suitcase"  took place over a mere six days back in 2021 at Findel airport. The short was produced by Cynefilms and will also be shown at the Luxembourg City Film Festival.

This year's Oscars awards ceremony will take place on 12 March.

Luxembourg co-production "Corsage", a historical drama starring Luxembourgish actress Vicky Krieps as the Austrian empress Sissi, has notably been left out of the Best Picture category. Rumours suggest that the scandal surrounding lead actor Florian Teichtmeister could have had an impact on the nominations, after the film was deprogrammed in Austria whedn Teichtmeister admitted possession of child pornography. He will face trial in Vienna on 8 February.

Leading the nominees with 11 nominations is “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” closely followed by “All Quiet on the Western Front,” and “The Banshees of Inisherin,” , both of which scored nine nominations.

Joining the above in the race for best picture are the two highest-grossing films of 2022, “Avatar: The Way of Water” and “Top Gun: Maverick,” as well as “Elvis,” "The Fabelmans", Tár,”, “Women Talking,” and “Triangle of Sadness”.
