Edward Steichen's photograph went on sale at Christie's as part of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen's collection, selling for $11.84 million dollars.

The photograph has been sold for $11.84 million dollars, which makes it the second most expensive photograph ever sold.

The photo, which depicts the iconic New York building of the same name, was taken in 1904.

The record for the most expensive photograph of all time was set earlier this year in May, after Man Ray's "Le Violon d'Ingres" sold for $12.4m, also at Christie's in New York, after initial estimates predicted a sale worth 7 million.
