The Luxembourg Encouragement for Artists Prize (LEAP) was launched in 2016 and is awarded every two years for a work of art linked to Luxembourg.
The 2020 edition, which partnered with RTL, was interrupted by Covid before the final. The winner Hisae Ikenaga only received her prize in autumn 2021, and her works can finally now be seen at RTL City in Kirchberg.
Five artists were shortlisted from a number of portfolios submitted. Their works were shown at the Rotondes in autumn 2020, and the international jury selected the Japanese-Mexican Ikenaga, who has been working in Luxembourg for several years.
Besides 12,500 euros, the award also includes an exhibition at RTL City, which launched on Monday. Her works incorporate furniture, which is repurposed and given a new meaning. Another piece of hers can also be seen at the Rotondes.
RTL's mission is to support culture, through TV shows and reports, but also through partnerships such as this one.
The 2022 edition of LEAP was launched at the same time as the exhibit. All artists with a link to Luxembourg are encouraged to enter their portfolio. There are no age limitations.
The final for this edition will be at the Rotondes in November, Covid permitting.
