Ornina Syrian Orchestra, Rock in Holtz, Kufa's Urban Art and Literary Summer Day.

Language, art and music are at the forefront of this week's events, with locations in Luxembourg City, Holtz, Esch-sur-Alzette and Mersch.

Ornina Syrian Orchestra

Discover Syria through the power of music in a concert by the Ornina Syrian Orchestra in Luxembourg City. In cooperation with Luxembourg artists, the orchestra wants to combat prejudice by showing the beauty of its home country through music. The concert was organised by Ornina asbl and the Syria cultural centre. This year, the orchestra will be playing classical Arabic music under the title "Hymne au Printemps".

The concerts will take place in the Grand Theatre in Luxembourg city on 13 and 14 July.

Rock in Holtz

On Friday 13 July, rock fans will be entertained in Holtz in western Luxembourg.

The event will take place in a big tent and the former Voice-of-Germany candidate Christine Heitz will perform. Other acts include the band "Under Pressure" and "Zero Point Five".

Kufa’s Urban Art Festival

For the opening of Kufa’s Urban Art Festival, 10 new graffiti art works were created in Esch-sur-Alzette. All in all, around 30 walls have so far been decorated by artists in the Minette metropolis of Esch. The Urban Art Festival is directed at anyone interested in urban culture in all its expressive possibilities.

The festival will include music, art, dance and good food, as well as skateboard and BMX shows.

The festival will take place in the Esch-sur-Alzette culture factory from Saturday 4pm onwards.

Literary summer day

On Sunday, a literary summer day will take place in Mersch.

Authors will read from their latest publications and will talk to literary critics about their work. The event will take place in the park of the Maison Servais in Mersch. The books discussed were written in Luxembourgish, German and French.

The event will start at 11am and will go on until 4pm, meaning that visitors will be home in time for the World Cup final.
