Different music styles to choose from this week, but also other activities, including a very special mini golf course.

Rotondes: Mini golf and exhibitions

A special exhibition is happening in the Rotondes on Thursday evening: 18 different artists have created their own minigolf stations to celebrate the Rotondes' ten year anniversary.

The management of the Rotondes venue enlisted 18 different artists with whom they'd worked over the past ten years and gave them the option to create their own mini golf stations with the condition that people would be able to play mini golf on it.  The various stations will be both inside the gallery and outside in the courtyard of the Rotonde 2, which is still under construction.

On the whole it is urban art combined with a fun game. Some of the stations look spectacular, others can be quite tricky to play on. Discover the preview of Rotondes' mini golf course by clicking on the video below: audio only in Luxembourgish, but the images are telling!

Siren's Call festival

It is finally time for den Atelier's second edition of the Siren's Call festival. The festival offers an exciting musical line up, but also includes workshops, an exhibition, a local market, and much more. The headline act this year is the American band MGMT.

One of the festival's more remarkable aspects is its venue: the festival will be taking place in and around the Neumünster Abbey in the Grund, which is quite scenic and offers an incredible atmosphere.

The festival kicks off at 2pm on Saturday 30 June with its first concert and will go on until the early hours. Children under 10 years will have free entry.

The life and work of Thierry van Werveke

The national audiovisual centre in Dudelange (CNA) is hosting an exhibition about the unforgettable actor Thierry van Werveke. The actor died in 2009 after years of battling an illness. His career included films, television series and plays. The Luxembourgish actor rose to prominence in Germany in his role as Henk in the film Knockin' on Heaven's Door alongside Til Schweiger.

In Luxembourg, he was known for collaborating with film director Andy Bausch. Van Werveke was a multifaceted artist; a distinctive feature that the  CNA exhibition tries to capture. The exhibition opens on Sunday and will go on until 30 December.

Carmen opera

The famous opera Carmen is being performed this summer in Luxembourg. Two separate theatres are showcasing the opera.

The Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg is finishing its 2017/2018 season with the production of Carmen(s), chorographed by José Montalvo. Montalvo is fascinated by the character Carmen and believes that "a Carmencita slumbers in every woman", which is why the title has the bracketed plural form.

Carmen depicts a revolutionary woman from the 19th century who embodies freedom and emancipation. Georges Bizet's opera was initially met by negative critiques in 1875, but the opera gained acclaim after the composer had passed away and is now one of the most-performed operas in the world.

The dance spectacle Carmen(s) will be performed on Friday and Saturday at the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg.

The Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg is not the only production of Carmen happening in Luxembourg. The opera singer Elina Garanca will be performing songs from Carmen in collaboration with Luxembourg's Philharmonic Orchestra. This performance will take place outdoors in the Kinnekswiss park on Saturday evening.
