With the increasing digitalisation taking place in many lines of business, digital access has become an essential issue. By maintaining and developing its mobile network, Orange Luxembourg allows the entire population to be perfectly connected.
Communicating with administrations, making purchases, managing bank accounts: these days many essential operations are carried out online, often from a mobile device. Digital access everywhere is not just an amenity, it has become an imperative.
To guarantee this access to a quality mobile network all over the country, Orange Luxembourg has increased its investments over the past few years. The main goal is currently the expansion of the 5G network. In Luxembourg, the first sites for this network have been installed, but it will take a few more years for the entire country to be covered.
At present, operators are doing their utmost to prepare the network of the future. Currently, however, only a tiny part of the population owns a 5G phone. This means that the majority of Luxembourg residents are still using a 4G or 4G+ connection, although this recent development has already made it possible to considerably increase the offered speed (up to 250 Mbits in download).
It is Orange Luxembourg’s responsibility to maintain and improve the existing 4G and 4G+ network.
In this context, the operator is making major efforts to continue optimising these networks. The recently signed partnership with Nokia will not only enable the development of 5G, but also improve the efficiency of the 4G and 4G+ networks.
The maintenance of existing networks, which now cover 99.8% of the population, is even more important as the rollout of the 5G network will initially involve a high-performance 4G+ core network. Output and latency will noticeably be improved in this first phase of the 5G rollout.
The 5G network is already active in the country and will lead to the development of applications with revolutionary potential. For example, it will be possible to broadcast a live concert in hologram form several hundred kilometres away. A demonstration of this hologram technology was presented by Orange Luxembourg at the Connecting Tomorrow exhibition at LuxExpo The Box. Cloud gaming will also be facilitated by 5G, as will the development of the autonomous car.
By guaranteeing access to a reliable and responsive mobile network throughout the country, Orange Luxembourg is already preparing for these technological developments which will have a significant impact on our lives.
