
On Monday, Luxembourg’s men’s national team played their fourth match in the pre-qualification round for EuroBasket 2029.
Away from home, Luxembourg were beaten 91–85 by Ireland, marking their second consecutive defeat following Friday’s 70–79 loss to North Macedonia.
Supporters in Dublin witnessed an evenly contested first half. The home side largely set the pace, but Luxembourg responded well, with Clancy Rugg scoring 13 points before the break. On Friday, however, the Red Lions struggled from long range, converting just one of eight three-point attempts before half-time. Ireland led 39–35 after 20 minutes.
In the third quarter, Ireland extended their advantage to 58–44. Luxembourg responded with a 9–0 run to show the game was far from over. The Red Lions stayed within touching distance in the final quarter but never managed to take the lead. With five minutes remaining, Luxembourg trailed 77–72. Ireland ultimately proved stronger in the closing stages and secured the win.
Clancy Rugg was Luxembourg’s top scorer with 23 points, while Philippe Gutenkauf (15) and Ben Kovac (17) also reached double figures.
The final two Group A matches will take place in July.
