Following Marko Stupar's penultimate home match on Saturday, HC Berchem sent out a press release a few hours later announcing his successor. Martin Hummel will coach the Réiserbann's men's team in the 2026/27 season. The contract is valid for two seasons, and the club thereby confirms RTL information. According to the statement, the club is hoping for "a new dynamic in the team."

During his career as a player, Martin Hummel was active in Käerjeng, Dudelange, and at HC Berchem. In the 1990s, he was considered the great handball talent of his generation and was the first Luxembourger to move to the handball academy of a German club, which was HSG Solingen.

As a coach, the former top scorer of the championship has previously stood on the sideline at HC Standard, followed by many years at HB Dudelange. Following his departure from the Foxes after the 2024/25 season, he took up the position of assistant coach of the champion, Red Boys Differdange, during this season.
