In the third of ten play-off matches, FC Beckerich convincingly defeated US Esch 6:0 on Saturday, securing promotion to the next tier after two years in the third division. It marks the club's third promotion to the second division in the past twelve years.
Before the interval, Beckerich were already on course for victory in front of 462 spectators at the stadium in Lorentzweiler. The team effectively sealed the win shortly after the change of ends with their third goal.
As the match progressed, the Greens capitalised on numerous simple errors in the Esch defence to extend their lead further.
For US Esch, a difficult and turbulent season ends with defeat and relegation. The newly promoted club had made up significant ground in the second half of the season, ultimately earning a play-off spot.
However, in the decisive match, the team from Lallange showed little creativity on the pitch. US Esch last played in the BGL Ligue during the 2017/18 season and were subsequently relegated to the third division within a few years. Having only secured promotion last season, they now face an immediate return to the lower tier.
