This Saturday is the team launch for RCL Girlz, the second official contact rugby team for women in Luxembourg.

Today Radio hosted coach and board member of Rugby Club Luxembourg, Giulia Iannucci, to promote the launch of the Girlz Rugby team this Saturday. This marks the birth of the second official contact team for women in the country.

Rugby has long been male-dominated, however, this team hopes to assure women of the next generation that they too are capable and encouraged to participate in a contact sport. The game does not discriminate, and Giulia emphasises that there is a place for everyone!

Girlz Rugby: RCL Women's Team Launch

The RCL Girlz team welcomes ladies from ages 13 to 21 at any experience level, as the goal is to foster an inclusive team where participants can find community in the sport. As recommended by Giulia, individuals who want to get involved are encouraged to come to the launch, and observe how immersive the game of rugby can be. The first hour is just touch, then followed by an hour of contact, and you are welcome to choose one version, or partake in both. From here, if you want to confirm your registration, you can go online to their website, and finish the process. This first gathering will be fairly relaxed, so there is no need to stress!

Giulia explains on Today Radio why rugby has grown so important to her, and why she encourages other people's participation. She expresses that the game of rugby is great exposure to a new set of values, specifically respect and teamwork, as it is so much larger than accomplishments on the field.

The launch takes place at Boy Konen Sports Fields starting at 10 a.m. If you want to stay active, meet new friends and community, or learn about the game of rugby, you are encouraged to stop by!
