Up to 10 mixed teams will take part in the annual Kick Cancer into Touch (KCIT) tournament at Boy Konen Cessange on Sunday.
Men, women, girls and boys will play in mixed ability teams for the glory of being the KCIT champion. As touch is a very low contact sport, it is open to players of all abilities, shapes, sizes and ages. In addition to the sport there will be food and an all day bar.
Together with the RCL Social league, KCIT has become a part of the Touch Calendar with the goal of sustaining and growing a truly inclusive, community sporting spirit. For example, there are 5 teams from the Social Corporate league playing, which provides ample opportunity for social players to enjoy themselves. There is a Juniors team aged between 12 - 15 years that will be made up of 80% girls developing their sporting confidence playing against adults.
The tournament is all about bringing people together and giving a platform and visibility for the people that work at places like Omega Haus day in, day out caring for the young and old terminally ill patients. It was initially set up in memory of the event organiser, Joe Lister's, sister and to ptomote awareness for local charities, all while having fun!
The local clubs are also paying their dues as RCL Senior players and the new rugby team in Esch will be contributing their bit to this rugby community too. There is also a family team coached by elite players who will provide an opportunity for Mum's and Dad's together with their under-12 sons and daughters to play together. Through this annual initiative, KCIT develops the playing population of Touch rugby, as well as the level and knowledge of the game.
If you would like to play then either enter a team or turn up on the day. The price to play is 15 euro per player with all funds going to local Luxembourg cancer charities.
