A Luxembourgish man is gearing up for the journey of a lifetime, aiming to cycle 12,000 kilometres across South America in 2024.

For many, New Year's resolutions involve setting some small personal goals and mostly failing to follow through on them.

However, for 33-year-old Chris Murray, this year's resolution consists of an incredible plan to cycle across South America, south to north.

Chris will set off on 8 January from the southern tip of Argentina, aiming to reach the northernmost point on the continent in Colombia by the end of May.

He was a guest on The Sam Steen Show on Wednesday morning where he talked all about his ambitious ride.

Born in Scotland, Chris spent all of his childhood in Luxembourg, eventually graduating from the European School. After his studies in Scotland, he has worked as an engineer in the renewable energy sector.

His career is now on temporary halt, as he is taking a break and travelling to Argentina with his bike by year's end. And not just any bike, but his everyday commuter bike used for work.

It's not the first challenge that Chris has taken on.

A couple of years ago, he cycled 2,000km from Oslo to the North Cape, the northernmost point of mainland Europe. An impressive feat, but his next challenge will be six times longer!

Inspired by the Schleck brothers, Chris' journey is a childhood dream: cycling across a continent he has never visited before.

His goal is to cover 12,000 kilometres in approximately 80 cycling days, with one rest day per week on average.

He will start in Ushuaia, Argentina on the 8th of January 2024 and plans to reach the endpoint by the end of May 2024.

During his journey, he will travel through six countries: Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia. But it's not just about cycling.

Along the way, he will take time to explore the continent's cultures and natural wonders, as well as taking photos and keeping us updated with a bi-weekly diary that we'll publish on RTL Today.
