FC Differdange 03 beat Marisca Mersch 4-2 on Friday night to win the Luxembourg Cup at a packed Stade de Luxembourg.
Second-tier Marisca had beat two BGL Ligue teams on their way to the final but couldn't overcome Differdange, who took home their 20th title.
A crowd of over 8,000 fans had filled the national stadium for the final and the teams did not disappoint. Differdange swiftly took command of the game, doubling their lead just before halftime with goals from Castro and Ulisses.
As the second half kicked off, Mersch bounced back with newfound energy. A moment of brilliance from Joël Rodrigues reduced the gap to 2-1 in the 64th minute as his audacious long-range effort found the back of the net.
Naïfi then scored for Differdange, restoring their lead to 3-1 in the 72nd minute.
A glimmer of hope appeared for Mersch when Frédéric Thill headed a goal in the 82nd minute, bringing the score back to 3-2.
But the minnows couldn't find an equaliser and Differdange capitalized on a late counter-attack, with Pomponi making the final score 4-2.
FC Differdange celebrated their triumph, not only clinching a trophy but also earning a spot in the preliminary qualifying rounds of the Europa Conference League.
