After winning the two-day-long tie against South Africa at the Seat Davis Cup in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg have been promoted to the World Group 2 of the international tennis competition.

Early on Sunday afternoon, Luxembourg's Chris Rodesch and Alex Knaff suffered a doubles defeat against the South African team at the Seat Davis Cup in Esch-sur-Alzette. The playoff encounter to enter the World Group 2 ended 4:6, 7:5, and 3:6 in favour of South Africa.

However, since Luxembourg won both of the first singles encounters on Saturday, they remained 2:1 ahead in the overall tie.

The decisive moment turned out to be the reverse singles match between South Africa's Kris van Wyk, a Davis Cup debutant, and Kaff, which ended 6-3, 3-6, 4-6 in favour of the Luxembourgish athlete.

In the final match of the tie, which no longer bore any consequence, Luxembourg's Raphael Calzi beat 18-year-old Devin Badenhorst 6:4 and 7:5.

Luxembourg thus won the tie 4:1 and are promoted to the World Group 2.
