More than 165,000 people watched the Champions League final between FC Liverpool and Real Madrid live on RTL on 28 May, twice the number of spectators present at the Stade de France. 85% of viewers watched the match on the big screen on RTL Zwee, while 15% enjoyed the livestream of the spectacular final exclusively on RTL Play.

The survey* shows that 43% of residents over 15 years of age watch the Champions League occasionally on RTL, i.e. more than 230,000 people. 53% are men, 57% are Luxembourgers and 58% are under the age of 50. During the 2021-2022 season, a total of 30 matches with commentary by Paul Philipp, Jeff Kettenmeyer and Tim Hensgen were broadcast live on RTL. The last five matches of the season were watched by an average of 130,000 people on RTL Zwee and RTL Play

After a year and a half, Formula 1 has taken a prominent place in the RTL programme. More than 225,000 people, 42% of all residents aged 15 and over, occasionally watch a Grand Prix with commentary in Luxembourgish by Serge Pauly, Franky Hippert and Tom Hoffmann on RTL Zwee or RTL Play. 45% of all spectators are women, 45% have a foreign nationality and 42% are between 15 and 34 years old.

On average, any given Grand Prix is watched by 110,000 spectators. 80% watch the race on RTL Zwee live on the big screen, 20% prefer to follow on their smartphone, tablet or desktop via RTL Play. It is not only the race that excites the Luxembourg public; the free trainings and qualifying sessions before the race, also attract a total of 65,000 viewers per weekend. The best score of the season so far was achieved with the Monaco Grand Prix. On Sunday afternoon, the duel between Ferrari and Red Bull on the legendary city circuit was watched by 154,000 people on RTL Zwee and RTL Play.

In addition to the Plurimedia study, ILRES conducted a survey in June on Formula 1 and the Champions League among a representative sample of 509 people over the age of 15.
