The two relegation places are finally officially confirmed, while Dudelange only have the relatively easy task of beating Hamm Benfica if they are to win the title, but there are still a lot of positions in between the two ends of the table that are still to be contested in the last two rounds.

Heroic Figueiredo as shambolic Niedercorn say goodbye to Europe

Progrés Niedercorn have been in absolutely horrible form since they had a brief spell on top of the table in Match. They are balancing their form out now, having only won one of the last 8 matches in the league (and that was against Hamm Benfica).

Ettelbrück, on the other hand, recorded back-to-back wins in that period and were now facing Progrés at home. Vincent Peugnet scored the opener this Sunday, and for quite some time, it looked like Progrés would travel back home with a flat 1-0 victory and 3 points in hand.

Etzella appeared to have different plans, though, and they started to come alive after the initial shock of conceding. Although they had multiple chances, we had to wait until the 38th minute until Lucas Figueiredo converted one of them. Figueiredo, one of the club’s biggest talents, has now scored on consecutive occasions for the senior team. The 18-year old left-back is one step away from a youth national team call-up, and the one point he salvaged here will help his team tremendously.

Fola breeze past RFCUL thanks to Jacquel

Racing Luxembourg don’t have anything to play for anymore, at least not in the league. But if this was their preparation for the Coupe de Luxembourg semi-finals coming up, I would be at least worried for them.

Fola continued their magnificent form: they have won 9 on the spin in all competitions and are the only club in the division who have won each of their last five. Both of the goals in this 2-0 win were scored by Thibault Jacquel, who has been stunning since his January arrival. Although it has to be pointed out that Fola Esch had at least two other sitters they had to score from, after successfully identifying the weakness of RFCUL’s shape in defending counter-attacks and overloads on one side of the pitch.

Many questions and no answers about Hostert...

...or to be accurate, we do already have one answer about their future: they will take part in the relegation playoff at the end of the season, unless they win both their matches by a combined goal difference of 9, which feels unimaginable right now. Their manager, Henri Bossi, will leave the club after two years in the role, and they undeniably need some change of ideas.

UNA Strassen were their opponents in Matchday 28, and the match was way too one-sided: it was the perfect occasion for Hostert to try to climb a place and improve their disastrous form (they only defeated Hamm Benfica since the turn of the year) as Strassen didn’t have a lot at stake. Hostert did have control of the match in the early stages, but they missed some clear-cut chances and they were made to pay. The score was already 1-0 in Strassen’s favour at half-time, but the home team managed to get another 3 in the second 45, including Runser’s tap-in for the third goal after some comical defending, leaving the striker completely alone roughly 8 or 9 meters out. Strassen will end the season on a high, whereas Hostert are in some serious turmoil.
