Just when we were starting to accept staying without a proper title race, it seems to be back now! Excitement in the lower sections in the table, too, means that we are perfectly set up for some dramatic moments in the last four weeks!
Well-balanced Wiltz’s willpower wasn’t enough
Swift Hesperange arrived at Stade Alphonse Théis with the odds vastly favouring them: their opponents on the day, Wiltz 71, had last won a match since late February. This time around though, Wiltz looked as though they were fighting for their lives. Although they did drop behind after conceding through a sloppy corner, but they equalised only seconds after the kick-off! Wiltz looked more lively through the whole match; unluckily for them, though, Rayan Philippe’s brace guaranteed Hesper their most crucial three points in the season so far!
F91 losing control?
The statement above is just as true for this match as it is about their title challenge. Middling UNA Strassen away was considered a rather easy fixture for Carlos Fangueiro’s Dudelange team, and they did dominate the match. Dejvid Sinani scored a very well-deserved opener with a brilliantly-placed free kick. However, Strassen, underdogs for the majority of the match, turned the game around: after 49 minutes, both of their two shots had gone in! The third was added towards the end of the match, by which point Strassen played with the confidence and freedom levels required. Exploiting a costly Kobe Cools error, Nicolas Perez placed the ball effortlessly in the bottom corner.
F91 play Hesper next weekend, so the stakes couldn’t be higher! Currently, F91 still have the lead by a meagre 2 points, although even a draw could be dangerous for them, as Fola Esch can easily come out as the biggest beneficiary of this fascinating clash between probably the two strongest trophy candidates!
