We truly saw how the battle to stay alive can make teams hungrier and more dangerous than ever last weekend, with several clubs towards the bottom end of the table securing surprising results: stay with me for a brief recap of the actions!
Racing to say goodbye to European hopes?
Until the very end of the match, it looked like Etzella Ettelbrück’s first draw of the season would arrive – a pleasing result against RFCUL. However, Etzella went one further, scoring the decider with 85 minutes played, courtesy of a delicious Téo Herr finish. The Ettelbrückers did play well all day, weathering the storm early on and turning the match on its head after conceding from Yann Mabella’s penalty in the first half.
F91’s advantage on top decreases to five points
No one had beaten F91 Dudelange in the league since early February, when then-challengers Niedercorn would find a way. Fast forward to Saturday, when Fola, gaining some real momentum under Sébastien Grandjean, had a two-goal lead at half-time at the Stade Jos Nosbaum. Dudelange’s misery continued into the second half too, as goalkeeper Enzo Esposito made his second error that led to a goal, allowing Jules Diallo an easy finish at an empty net. Vova and Edvin Muratovic both scored in the space of two minutes as a last hurrah, but it wasn’t enough this time.
Progrѐs lose podium place
After Hamm Benfica’s relegation was confirmed, there must have been a sense in Rodange’s players and staff, that they could be the next ones to go. They seemingly entered the pitch of the Stade Jos Haupert with that mindset. FCR did anything but surrendered this time as they attacked with real threat and dynamism, which culminated in goals! Momar N’Diaye equalised after Niedercorn’s opener not long before the half-time whistle. while Killian Amehi’s goal after 85 minutes provided the late drama. Thanks to this defeat, both Hesperange and Fola Esch are now better placed in the European qualification race than Progrѐs.
