The Luxembourg men's rugby team dominated against Hungary on Saturday evening, securing a 30-23 win at home.
After two defeats in two matches, Luxembourg's rugby team bounced back in its third outing in Conference 1 North, beating Hungary in front of a few hundred spectators at the Stade de Luxembourg on Saturday evening.
An early break along the touchline by Bares was stopped yards short of the Hungarian try line. In response Hungary played a physical game, gaining an advantage in the scrum.
The two teams traded penalties, leading to a score of 3-6, before Cendre scored the first try of the match, for Luxembourg, in the 25th minute after pushing their opponents for some time. William Browne, whose kicking game was on point Saturday night, increased the gap to 10-6.
After a further penalty a piece, the two teams went in for half time with a score of 13-9 in favour of Luxembourg, who also came close to scoring a second try just before the break.
The second half continued much like the first, with the lively play of Luxembourg opposed by the power of their Hungarian opposition. Visi, having only just entered the game, lead a Hungarian drive before scoring the first try of the game for Hungary, with the lead changing hands 13-16.
An exciting and open game kept the fans entertained, and as the hour mark approached Luxembourg grabbed their second try. Carroll had the ball on the right and fed it to Drennan who went over for the score. The conversion was never in doubt with Browne over the ball, increasing the lead to 20-16, before he added another penalty to increase Luxembourg's lead further to 23-16.
Previously Luxembourg had struggled with the physicality of the Czech Republic, but this time they did better and managed to match the Hungarians through the phases.
Luxembourg added a third try through Bertani after a wonderful team move, breaking the spirit of their Hungarian opponents, although they did manage to add a consolation try at the very end of the match.
Luxembourg missed out on the bonus point try in this game, but a score of 30-23 will buoy the mood of the Luxembourg team in Conference 1 North.
The Czech Republic currently lead the table with 10 points , followed by Sweden with 5. Luxembourg hold third place with 4 points, Hungary sit in fourth with 1 point, while Latvia are set to play their first game against the Grand Duchy on 2 April.
Scott Browne and Stefan Schaap from the team will be appearing on Letz Talk Sport on RTL Today Radio tonight from 7pm to discuss the game.
