Several Luxembourgish footballers played across Europe's top leagues over the weekend.
Gerson Rodrigues played for Troyes in the French Ligue 1 over the weekend. They faced RC Lens away from home and lost 0:4. Rodrigues played the full 90 minutes and received a yellow booking in the second half (74').
In the first German Bundesliga, Leandro Barreiro and FSV Mainz 05 drew 1:1 at home against Mönchengladbach. The Luxembourgish footballer only came on in the 88th minute.
Danel Sinani scored his first goal in the English Championship on Saturday. Huddersfield played against Cardiff away from home, and the Luxembourgish forward opened the score for the guests in the 12th minute. However, the moment was bittersweet, as Cardiff fought their way back with goals in minute 74 and 93.
In Ukraine, Vorskla Poltava bagged a surprise 2:1 victory over league leaders Dynamo Kyiv. Oliver Thill played the full 90 minutes of the away game and scored from the penalty spot in minute 74. The Luxembourgish player was also responsible for providing the assist to the first goal. Poltava is now in third place in the Ukrainian Premier League, trailing Kyiv by seven points.
Sébastien Thill played for Sheriff Tiraspol in their staggering 6:0 home victory over Zimbru Chisinau and scored the third goal of the game. Tiraspol is currently in second place in the highest Moldovan football league, three points behind Petroclub. However, due to Champions League appearances, Tiraspol has played three fewer games so far.
Sparta Rotterdam beat Willem II Tilburg 3:0 away from home. Mica Pinto played the full 90 minutes for Rotterdam, while Laurent Jans did not make the team selection for Tilburg.
Luxembourgish defender Dirk Carlson made an appearance for Erzgebirge Aue in the second German Bundesliga on Sunday. The team managed their second win of the season at home against 1. FC Heidenheim. Even after this win, Aue remains at the bottom of the league and could potentially face relegation.
