Pereira's participation marks the first time in a long time that a Luxembourger will be part of the prestigious race.
The 24 Hours of Le Mans is one of the most well-known races in the world and among racing's most prestigious long-distance races. In 2021, around 60 cars will participate in five different classes. Pereira will share an Aston Martin with Ben Keating from the USA and Felipe Fraga from Brazil.
Normally, the race would have taken place in June, but due to Covid-19 it was postponed to this weekend.
Pereira stated that it is "a dream come true" for him, with 24 Hours of Le Mans being "the biggest race you can drive".
While the race is uncharted territory for the Luxembourgish driver, he does have some experience on the track. In 2020, the 24-year-old drove around Le Mans in the context of the Porsche Cup. The main difference to a normal track is the length of the circuit at over 13 km. Nine of those are normal country roads, which are naturally closed to traffic during the race. All of this makes the circuit of Le Mans so special.
According to Pereira, the track requires drivers to adapt, featuring "fairly aggressive curbs". As a 24-hour race, it is different to others Pereira has participated in. Drivers have to "save, while still being fast", he added.
Pereira and his two teammates will participate in an Aston Martin. The other two brands registered in their class are Ferrari and Porsche. The team's goal is clear: Taking first place in their class, a feat which they already accomplished last year.
Dylan Pereira will participate in the so-called Pro AM Class.
