Kristian Blummenfelt from Norway took gold, followed by Alex Yee from team Great Britain (+11 seconds), and New Zealand's Hayden Wilde (+20 seconds).
The race included 10 kilometres of swimming, 40 kilometres of cycling, and a final 10 kilometres of running. Despite launching an attack on his bike and making it to the top of the pack, Luxembourgish athlete Stefan Zachäus finished the race as number 44, crossing the finish line seven minutes after winner Blummenfelt.

Summary of the race
Zachäus came out of the water as number 15, a mere 17 seconds after the leader of the race. After three out of eight rounds of cycling, Zachäus launched an attack, but unfortunately lost his lead again two rounds before the end. Andrea Salvisberg from Switzerland was the first to start running, his advance standing at eleven seconds.
Ten seconds later, Zachäus began the final stage of the competition, now being number 27. In the end, the race for gold was a battle between 37 runners at the front. Kristian Blummenfelt came out on top to secure gold, while the Luxembourgish triathlete ranked 44th.
